Alfiano Natta: Castle, Churches and Country Paths

Alfiano Natta opens up several ways to experience culture and landscapes. Historic churches, Castello di Razzano, rural stretches of path and viewpoints offer different reasons to explore the town and its surroundings. Castello di Razzano and ArteVino

Castello di Razzano was built in 1697 by Giovan Battista Gaetano Natta. In October 2009, the Museo ArteVino Razzano opened within the Tenuta Castello di Razzano. In Monferrato, Castello di Razzano is considered a building with an unusual appearance and high landscape value. The experiences on offer include a visit to the Museo ArteVino Razzano and the ageing cellars. Castello di Razzano also offers tasting experiences featuring products from its estates.

Paths through the Landscape and Forest

Stage 7 of the Cammini Monferrato Don Bosco includes a 1.8-kilometre stretch of path from Alfiano Natta to its hamlet of Sanico. In the Parco Naturale Ex Cave di Cardona, the route follows a path for approximately three kilometres before heading back towards Alfiano Natta. On the route to Alfiano Natta, the path passes through a forest for approximately 250 metres. The landscape includes extensive cultivated areas, historic farm estates and small linear settlements. The different path lengths help you assess the preferred scope of your exploration.

Churches with Art and History

The parish church of San Marziano preserves paintings and works by Guglielmo Caccia and his daughters. Its façade consists of unplastered 18th-century brickwork. The Chiesa di Santa Maria is located next to Castello di Razzano; it has been documented since the second half of the 13th century.

In Cardona, the Chiesa di Sant'Eusebio preserves paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. A Roman marble funerary stele with the busts of a married couple is set into the façade of the rectory next to the Chiesa di Sant'Eusebio. In Sanico, the Chiesa di San Pietro next to the cemetery is an 18th-century rural church. The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate was elevated to parish church status in the 17th century.

Chapels and Historic Traces Outdoors

On the outskirts of Alfiano Natta, a short path leads to the rural Chiesetta di San Defendente. The Cappella di San Grato was built in 1886 at the highest point to protect the settlement from lightning and hail. The ruins of the former Chiesa di Santo Spirito – San Spiridione – lie in a wooded area.

Belvedere and Big Benches

The Alfiano Natta Belvedere, accessible via Strada San Defendente, features a board showing villages in the hills opposite, in the province of Asti. Big Bench No. 148 is located at Strada Gessi 2 in the hamlet of Casarello, Alfiano Natta, and is part of the Big Bench Community Project. Alfiano Natta also has a Big Bench at a viewpoint.
