Castles and sacred sites
The Castello di Brignano has a rectangular ground plan and an equally square tower protecting the entrance. This architectural form corresponds to a typical Lombard building type. The Chiesa di San Giacomo stands in the lower part of the town of Brignano. Its interior preserves old furnishings of considerable value.
The Santuario Madonna della Casa is located in the small hamlet of Madonnina in the municipality of Brignano. It was built in 1656 on the remains of an existing church of Sant’Anna, which is mentioned under this name in 1604 and already existed in the 15th century. The façade of the Santuario is in the barocchetto-lombardo style.
The Castello di Spinetta Spinola dates from the period between 1300 and 1400 and bears medieval characteristics. The Polo museale e Centro di documentazione di valle of the ComunitĂ montana Valli del Curone, Grue e Ossona contains archaeological and palaeontological finds. The cultural spectrum thus ranges from individual buildings to an exploration of traces from the past.
Trails through forest and history
La Strada della Rocca Scomparsa is 13.5 kilometres long and begins in Brignano-Frascata. From there, it leads through the hamlet of Frascata and along an ascending road to the ruins of the Castello di Cantacapra at an elevation of 380 m. On the steep climb to Costa dei Pianacci, it passes through mixed forests of chestnut and oak trees.
A marked route with white-and-red trail markers also leads from Brignano-Frascata, first along a steep stone staircase to the ancient Oratorio di San Giacomo from the 16th century and then past the 16th-century Castello Bruzzo. The routes described combine physical activity with historical sites and give your daily itinerary different thematic focuses.

The area around Brignano is home to the Castello di Torre Ratti, a castle, as well as the Museo don Carlo Sterpi, a museum.
