Cuccaro Monferrato between cultural heritage and hilly landscapes

Wine-growing hills, agricultural land and forests surround Cuccaro Monferrato. They extend as far as the borders with Vignale Monferrato, Camagna Monferrato and Fubine Monferrato. Monferrato ByBike is a project presented by the municipality of Lu e Cuccaro Monferrato to promote sustainable mobility and enhance the area through the use of bicycles. At the same time, Monferrato ByBike promotes cycling tourism through routes for discovering the local cultural heritage. The first section of Le porte del Monferrato is 7 kilometres long. It starts at the Basilica di San Dalmazio in Quargnento and ends at the Maria Ausiliatrice roundabout in Cuccaro Monferrato.

Hilly landscapes and Big Benches

The Big Bench 99 is located on the Bricco del Ciùdu along the panoramic road between Lu and Cuccaro Monferrato. From there, Big Bench 98 in Lu Monferrato can be reached on foot. The two locations connect the surrounding landscape with a pedestrian route, while the wine-growing hills, fields and forests define the spatial character around Cuccaro.

Churches and historic buildings

The Church of Santa Maria della Neve stands in the upper part of the town, in Montalto, which is also known as Contrada della Cappelletta. Surrounded by trees, the white church was built on the ruins of the old rural church of the Madonna, which was demolished in the early years of the 19th century. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta was built in the first half of the 19th century through a comprehensive reconstruction of the older church of Santa Maria “de Prelio”. In Cuccaro, you can therefore encounter both a building constructed on older ruins and the extensive transformation of a predecessor church.
