Orsara Bormida between Castle History and Nature Trails

In the vicinity of Orsara Bormida lies Castello d'Orsara Bormida, whose history evolved from a functional early structure into a castle complex. It was built around the year 1000 as a simple watchtower. In the 14th century, it was transformed into a castle by adding an octagonal tower.

Church and Historical Changes

The parish church of San Martino was Orsara Bormida's first parish church in 1276. La Muntà: Path, Views and Landscape

La Muntà is a 600-metre-long uphill path on the southern slope of Orsara Bormida. It connects the town centre with farmhouses and cultivated fields in the Bormida plain. This provides you with a manageable connection to the landscape, linking the town with its agriculturally shaped surroundings.

Today, La Muntà is a one-hour nature trail loop with the return journey via Via Longa. The middle section forms a balcony-like viewpoint above the plain; from there, the view extends over gentle hills and, in the distance, towards mountains. At the clearing near La Canà there are two benches and two wooden tables. The site can be used for relaxing breaks as well as performances.
