Cinaglio: Frescoes, Earth History and Canestrelli

The Chiesa Romanica di San Felice in Cinaglio dates from the 12th to the 13th century. Its apse contains important frescoes; their style makes it possible to classify them within the fresco painting created by itinerant artists at the end of the 15th century. Thus, a single building brings together a Romanesque period of construction and a later visual language. The Chiesa Romanica di San Felice therefore links Cinaglio’s Romanesque building period with the frescoes subsequently created in its apse.

The Festa Patronale di Cinaglio 2026 also had a historical focus. As part of the Festa, the “Catasto Miniato dei possedimenti di Cinaglio nel 1751” was exhibited at the Biblioteca Civica. The occasion added a specific reference to Cinaglio in 1751 to the character of the town and made historical property ownership the subject of a public exhibition.

The hamlet of Gorghi is of paleontological interest. The Riserva Regionale Valle Andona, Valle Botto e Valle Grande was established in 1985 to protect and enhance the area’s paleontological heritage. The hills of the Riserva contain intact marine shells from the Pliocene, dating from approximately 5 to 1.8 million years ago. In this way, regional food culture, hilly landscapes and earth history come together in a diverse thematic setting.
