Between 1748 and 1757, the church was remodeled and expanded. The dates mark two clearly distinguishable phases of construction.

Further religious buildings add to the townscape. The Torre Civica is now the bell tower of San Giovanni. The Confraternita di San Bernardino is one of Canale’s Baroque churches.
