Discover Lagnasco: Orchards, Culture and Gardens
Orchards as a Defining Landscape
Lagnasco is closely associated with fruit growing: more than 1,500 hectares of land in the municipality are currently cultivated as orchards. This gives your stay a clear connection to the landscape, which is especially evident on the first weekend of April. Fruttinfiore takes place in Lagnasco every year at that time. The event continues to hold regional recognition as the “Mostra – Mercato Nazionale di Frutticoltura”.
Fruttinfiore: Routes Through the Blossoms
Fruttinfiore includes the non-competitive running event Cursa ‘d Pumalin. It leads from Piazzale Asprofrut to the courtyard of the Castelli di Lagnasco. Fruttinfiore also includes the Sunday morning Camminata tra i frutteti in fiore, a walk through Lagnasco’s blossoming orchard landscape. Its route runs from Piazzale Asprofrut to Piazza Umberto 1°.
Giardino delle Essenze
Another way to experience nature and agriculture is the Giardino delle Essenze in Lagnasco. It includes a botanical garden and is an educational farm open to the public. Aromatic herbs are grown there, and educational and tourism activities are also developed. For visitors interested in herbs and garden culture, this combination of garden, educational farm and cultivation is particularly illustrative.
Churches with a Historic Character
The churches also give Lagnasco a distinctive historic character. The Chiesa Parrocchiale was built between 1715 and 1720 to a design by Giovanni Antonio Sevalle, the architect of the House of Savoy. The Chiesa della Confraternita del Santissimo Crocifisso is the oldest church in the town and is more than 500 years old.
Museums, Castles and Gardens in the Surrounding Area
Castelli Tapparelli D'Azeglio, a museum, is located in the immediate surroundings of Lagnasco. The surrounding area also contains the Pinacoteca Matteo Olivero, likewise a museum, La Castiglia, a castle, and Castello della Manta, a castle. The view therefore extends beyond Lagnasco’s churches to museums and castles in the surrounding area.
The surrounding landscape also includes Arco Trionfale, a natural arch, the Giardino Botanico di Villa Bricherasio, a garden, and the Giardini Baden Powell, also a garden. Cima Bracco, a summit, is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Lagnasco. The geographical connections thus range from destinations in the surrounding area to a summit in the wider region.
