Murazzo between the Stura Landscape and Church History

Murazzo is a place where the Stura landscape, stepped plains and ecclesiastical history come together. From north to south, the plain consists of three adjacent levels of terrain at different elevations. At the same time, the landscape is stony and fairly fertile; it is irrigated by the two important canals, Leona and Nuova. For walking and hiking, the Sentiero Padre Dario nature trail is an important point of reference. It runs along the banks of the Stura River for approximately 7 km, with several ascents and descents. Church and Historical Perspectives

The Church of Santa Maria della Neve in Murazzo was elevated to parish status on October 13, 1610, by Monsignor Tomaso Biolato. The Parish of Santa Maria della Neve is located at Piazza Santa Maria della Neve 1, 12045 Fossano CN. A bell tower, sacristy, archive and baptistery were subsequently built beside the church.

Murazzo already existed before Fossano was founded. The nearby Diocesan Museum of Fossano displays works from the parish church of Murazzo, including a fresco depicting the Christ Child by a local painter from the mid-16th century. The connection between local history, the church and the museum offers culturally interested visitors a glimpse of Murazzo reaching far back through time.
