Neive: Winegrowing and Culture in a Small Area

Neive is a destination with a clear focus on winegrowing and culture. For wine enthusiasts, Neive brings together the Barbaresco MGA and the vineyards cultivated there by the Rivetti family. Bricco di Neive is a Barbaresco MGA in the municipality of Neive. Dante Rivetti’s vineyards are located next to the winery and are among the company’s oldest vineyards. The Rivetti family has tended them by hand for more than four generations. In this way, Neive combines winegrowing, museums and historic buildings into a range of cultural highlights.

Wine Experiences in Bricco di Neive

Azienda Agricola Dante Rivetti is located at Località Bricco di Neive 12 in Neive, has vineyards and offers cellar tours and wine tastings. These also include vertical tastings of older vintages of Barbera d'Alba and Barbaresco. At Dante Rivetti, the tastings include a cellar visit and a platter of cold cuts and cheese. During tours of La Casetta del Castello, you will learn about the historic cellars, the wines and the history of Castello di Neive. A tasting of the wines produced by the winery is accompanied by explanations of the vineyards of origin and the production techniques.

The Museo Casa della Donna Selvatica

The Museo Casa della Donna Selvatica documents the production of the grappa known as “La Grappa della Donna Selvatica” by Lidia and Romano Levi over more than sixty years. It also presents Lidia’s herbal compositions and Romano Levi’s hand-drawn poetic labels as “arte-selvatica.” Museum tickets are available from the municipal tourist office.

Historic Buildings in the Municipality

The San Michele Arciconfraternita was built in the second half of the 18th century by the architect Antonio Borgese and houses a valuable Renaissance-style organ. The Cappella S. Sebastiano in the municipality of Neive has existed since the 15th century; it was completely rebuilt in the 18th century. It is considered a typical example of a rural chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian. Also located in the municipality, the Palazzo dei Conti Cocito originally began as a fortified house from the 15th century and was remodeled during the Baroque period.
