Historical Layers and Sacred Spaces

Bruino reveals its history particularly through its churches and buildings. The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Martino preserves evidence of a medieval predecessor mentioned in documents from 1006 and 1011. Its longitudinal interior with three naves, a barrel vault with lunettes and wall decoration inspired by Baroque art brings together several periods of design. The wall decoration was altered in the 1920s. The church has level access for residents of Bruino and the neighbouring municipalities.

The Castello di Bruino also represents several historical layers. Its exterior walls feature a fresco created in 1933 by the Piedmontese painter Carlo Morgari, depicting Saint Martin sharing his cloak with a poor man. The present massive building dates from the 16th century, is in a state of decay and has a large adjoining park. A first rural fortification associated with the castle is documented in an imperial charter issued by William II of Holland in 1252. The Castello di Bruino is not accessible to visitors.

Rivarossa and Religious Traditions

In the countryside around the hamlet of Rivarossa, the Cappella della Madonna Assunta stands outside the built-up area. Tall, centuries-old plane trees surround the chapel and give its setting a distinctly shaped landscape character. Two Masses are celebrated there each year; one of them, on 15 August, is accompanied by a solemn procession from the parish church. A wayside shrine dedicated to the Madonna Assunta in Rivarossa can be traced back as a destination for processions to the 17th century.

Festivals, Wine and Local Craftsmanship

The recurring Fiera di San Martino e delle Tradizioni di Bruino is a fair for wine, agriculture, arts and crafts, and trade. Culinary and oenological specialities as well as local handicrafts are offered there. The Festa di Primavera provides a different seasonal focus: it is a traditional event in Bruino featuring producers, farms, street food and local businesses. The programme also includes an art and photography competition as well as demonstrations. Religious traditions, agriculture and creative activities thus represent different aspects of the town’s cultural and events scene.

Culture and Practical Information

The Chiesa di Santa Maria Goretti is the main place of worship in Bruino’s Alba Serena neighbourhood. It is used throughout the year and regularly hosts pastoral gatherings and concerts. As part of the “Bici in Comune” project, in which Bruino participates, the Sangone cycle path is promoted for everyday cycling and walks in the countryside; the project is planned for the two-year period 2026/2027.
