Beaches and Coastal Landscapes
Castiadas combines two distinct coastal landscapes: Cala Pira lies at the outlet of a shallow valley and has a 400 m long beach with brilliantly white sand and crystal-clear water. Cala Sinzias stretches for 800 m and has a compact expanse of golden sand. The different lengths and colour effects give both beaches a clearly distinct profile. When choosing between the two beaches, length and sand colour are the main points of reference.

Above Cala Pira stands the restored 18th-century Torre di Cala Pira. From the headland above the beach, it dominates the coast. Behind Cala Sinzias lies a now-thinned pine stand where white lilies grow. The tower stands above the beach, while the pine stand lies behind Cala Sinzias.
History and Culture in the Municipal Area
The Museo del Territorio is housed in the Complesso Ex Carcere. The museum has a ground-level entrance, a ramp for people with disabilities, free parking spaces and a lift. The Colonia Penale was finally closed in 1952.
In the northern part of the municipality of Castiadas lies the megalithic complex of Cuili Piras, with remains of burial structures and groups comprising a total of 53 menhirs, most of them anchored in the ground. The Nuraghe S’Omu ‘e S’Orcu is a complex structure with three towers around a central tower. A ring wall surrounds it; five towers survive from this wall. The architectural structures at Cuili Piras and the Nuraghe S’Omu ‘e S’Orcu differ: Cuili Piras comprises burial structures and groups of menhirs, while the nuraghe is characterised by its towers and ring wall. About a mile from Cala Sinzias beach, a Roman ship sank in the 1st century AD. On part of the roof tiles from the Cala Sinzias wreck, the short side bears a palmette-stamp decoration considered unique in the Mediterranean region.
Nature and Activities at La Montagna
The forests of La Montagna di Castiadas include large holm oaks left untouched by humans, strongly scented, gnarled junipers centuries old, and flowering strawberry trees. Local plants include myrtle, rosemary and rockrose; there are also pink and white oleanders. The vegetation therefore differs markedly from the open sandy areas at Cala Pira and Cala Sinzias.
The highest point in the Località Minni Minni can be reached as part of guided tours, by mountain bike and on foot. When planning a visit to the highest point, the preferred means of getting around is a separate consideration. A guided tour differs from travelling by mountain bike or on foot. La Montagna di Castiadas is suitable for hikes and sports such as climbing on granite rocks. Hiking and climbing on granite rocks are presented as distinct activities.
