Discover Sant'elmo on Sardinia's southeast coast

Spiaggia di Sant’Elmo is located in the village of Sant’Elmo in the municipality of Castiadas on Sardinia’s southeast coast. Its character arises from the direct juxtaposition of beach, rocky coastline and distinctive landscape features: Spiaggia Sant’Elmo is 200 metres long, while Cala Sant’Elmo consists of an alternation of rocks and small sandy coves. Sant'elmo therefore presents the coast not as a uniform stretch, but as a succession of different shoreline scenes.

Between volcano, coves and granite islet

The Monte Turno behind Spiaggia Sant’Elmo is particularly striking. The mountain is a now-inactive volcano. Further within the landscape, the mountain profile of the Oasi dei Sette Fratelli nature park forms the scenic backdrop to the coast of Castiadas. Off the coast lies Scoglio di Sant’Elmo, a small granite islet about 900 metres offshore opposite the Monte Turno headland. The surroundings can also be explored on foot: Su Cannisoni beach can be reached from the village of Sant’Elmo in a northerly direction. Getting oriented on arrival and getting around

From the southern entrance, a short unpaved turn-off leads to Cala Sant’Elmo beach; it is better to take this route on foot. To reach Cala Sant’Elmo, the coastal section can be accessed from Costa Rei or alternatively from Castiadas via the Costa Rei–Villasimius provincial road and the S. Elmo Beach Hotel. The nearest bus stop to Spiaggia Sant’Elmo is SANT’ELMO, about a 0.4-kilometre walk away. The ARST stop SANT’ELMO is served by route 135.
