Dolianova: History, Olive Oil and Trekking

Dolianova combines a multifaceted historical heritage with insights into olive oil and wine culture, as well as opportunities for longer hikes.

Historical heritage around San Pantaleo

The former Cattedrale di San Pantaleo was built between the early 12th century and 1289, the year it was consecrated. The site thus points to a long ecclesiastical history, although its architectural history cannot be limited to a single period. The site also contains evidence of a Christian presence from the 5th and 6th centuries, including a baptismal font.

Olive oil and wine as local themes

The exhibition at the Museo dell'Olio Sa mola de su Notariu covers the complete olive oil production cycle. The museum is located in the villa of the Boyl family, dating from the late 17th century. Here, the history of a villa meets the presentation of a production process that is important to the region.

The Cantine di Dolianova offer another facet of the local culinary culture. A guided tour of the winery and two types of wine tastings are available there. The tastings are personally presented by experienced sommeliers and provide a distinct focus alongside the olive oil museum.

Festival tradition and views of the old town

The Sagra di San Giorgio in Dolianova traditionally takes place on the Monday after Pentecost at a rural church dedicated to the saint. The religious connection and rural venue give the festival a distinctly local character. The Monday date tied to Pentecost shifts from year to year in the calendar.

Nuraghe S’Omu S’Orcu and the route there

The archaeological complex of Nuraghe S’Omu S’Orcu covers more than 1,200 square metres. From Dolianova, access is via the road towards San Nicolò Gerrei. For day planning, this walking section is a separate part of the approach.

Trekking in Parteolla

The „Gli Antenati del Parteolla“ trekking route is approximately 8 kilometres long, takes an average of six hours and has a moderate difficulty level. Its length, duration and rating describe an extended hike in which not only the number of kilometres but also the time available during the day plays a role. The six hours are an average and therefore do not represent an identical timeframe for every individual hike. Together with the walk to Nuraghe S’Omu S’Orcu, the route offers an active side of Dolianova, while the Cattedrale, villa and museums provide cultural highlights.
