Archaeology and Historic Places

Senorbì combines archaeological sites, historic churches, wine tradition and the agricultural landscape of Trexenta. The MADN Archaeological Museum is located in the historic center. Its focal point is a two-storey historic house with a large loggia; the exhibition tour comprises six sections.

Beyond the museum, history also leads to notable places. Around 120 graves were excavated in the necropolis of Monte Luna. Most are graves with an access shaft and a single or double burial chamber; there are also rectangular shaft graves and some amphora burials. On the hill of Santu Teru lies an acropolis with residential quarters and a defensive wall. The remains of the fortified settlement include massive foundations and monumental public buildings.

Villas and Churches

Villa Aresu was the residence of a wealthy family from Senorbì. The property has a covered area of 1,400 m² and is surrounded by more than 4,000 m² of land. Villa Aresu also has six stables that housed numerous horses. During the Festa di Santa Vitalia, the finish of the horse-riding competition is Cuaddus de santa Vida, held in the Sisini district at Villa Aresu; riders from all over southern Sardinia compete against one another at a trot.

The Chiesa di Santa Barbara features carved altars, a wooden crucifix and several notable statues by the 18th-century sculptor G. A. Lonis. It is free of architectural barriers. The Chiesa di San Sebastiano was built in the early years of the 17th century because the plague was raging in the village. The Chiesa di Santa Mariedda dates back to the 14th century.

Trexenta, Wine and Festivals

Senorbì lies in the agricultural landscape of Trexenta, with numerous cultivated fields. Over the course of the year, the colours change from brown ploughed earth in autumn to green growing wheat in spring and golden grain fields in summer. The local wine tradition includes Cantina Trexenta: it offers a guided tour focused on the winemaking tradition followed by a wine tasting, and has a large indoor space for guided wine tastings and group visits.

Another seasonal highlight is the two-day summer festival held in honour of Santa Mariedda. During the festival, a procession makes its way through the village streets at sunset and ends on the hill by the church. The landscape around Senorbì is also home to Su Nuraxi in Sisini, part of the tower of the Nuraghe of Simieri, and the remains of the Nuraghe of Monte Uda.
