Riola Sardo combines a landscape shaped by olive groves and vineyards with traces of a long settlement history and unusual cultural sites. Olive groves and vineyards occupy large parts of the local area. As a result, the connection between agriculture, regional everyday life and the landscape is one of the defining themes of a stay. These include paths leading through the quarry areas and the adjacent spaces. The quarries provide the installations with a setting of paths and open areas. Most of the installations are outdoors, while each tour corresponds to its own thematic sound and music area. The site is therefore aimed at visitors who want to experience the landscape not only visually, but also through sound and spatial staging.
The park includes a visitor centre of approximately 600 square metres with information and support services. The park grounds have direct access from the provincial road; admission is free. Historic traces around Riola Sardo
Casa Carta stands behind the parish church of Riola Sardo. The building dates from the 17th century and was an aristocratic residence. The area around the Civas Nuraghe also points to the older history of the surroundings: Punic pottery fragments were found there, including amphorae from the 3rd century BC.
Riola Sardo has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Around ten nuraghi bear witness to this; some of them were also used during the Punic period. These structures represent a settlement that began long before the town structures visible today. Another cultural feature is the traditional costume of Riola Sardo. It is worn mainly by women on special occasions and during private and religious ceremonies.
A local festival moment at Mare Foghe
On the River Mare Foghe, impressive fireworks illuminate the surrounding park on the night of the 26th. These fireworks are also called “S'arroda de Sant'Anna” and form an independent point of reference in Riola Sardo’s cultural calendar.
