A special way to experience the town is Butera Poetica. The project transforms the shutters of shops in the historic centre into works of art and creates a cultural tour through the town’s streets. In this way, the townscape itself becomes the vehicle for a cultural experience and offers you an unusual way to discover Butera, where art and everyday architecture come together directly.
Archaeology and Architectural History
The Museo civico di Butera is known for its archaeological collections featuring bronze and, above all, ceramic finds. The remaining interior spaces of the Castello di Butera house the Museo Archeologico. The architectural history of the Castello Arabo Normanno di Butera spans several phases: it began during the Arab period in the 9th to 10th centuries and continued under Norman rule in the 12th century.
Further archaeological topics range from the Nekropole ellenica del Piano della Fiera to the Dolmen di Butera. The necropolis dates back to the Bronze Age and was later used in Greek and Roman times. The Dolmen di Butera is a megalithic stone altar and is one of the few of its kind in Sicily. For those interested in geology, the Sito del Gelasiano near Monte San Nicola includes a type section selected to establish the boundary between the Pliocene and Pleistocene, particularly the base of the Gelasian.

The nearby area also expands the selection of cultural and historical destinations. The Castello di Butera is a castle in the vicinity of Butera. The Necropoli di Monte Dessueri is an ancient site near Butera. Also in the surrounding area are Castelluccio di Gela, a castle, and Gela, Greek Bath, an ancient site.
Belvedere and Beaches
The Belvedere is the most important viewpoint in Butera’s historic centre. From there, you can enjoy views of the surrounding landscape, cultivated fields and the sea. For a different landscape experience, Lido Manfria, Lido Panama Beach and Manfria are beaches near Butera. Playa Serenusa is a beach farther afield in the region around Butera.
