Castello and Duomo: Architecture with Layers from Different Periods

The Castello dei Valdina features a Renaissance loggia connecting its two building sections. The baronial palace section displays a transitional style between the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

The Duomo, too, takes visitors through several periods. Construction of the present-day Duomo probably began around 1505, after an earthquake destroyed the former Chiesa di Gesù e Maria. The Duomo houses the panel painting Madonna di Termini by the painter Angelo Chirico. The main chapel also contains a statue of the Madonna delle Grazie, created in 1566 and attributed to Andrea Calamech.

Church Art and Public Spaces

The Chiesa di Gesù e Maria contains a painting of Jesus and Mary attributed to the school of Camarda. The Chiesa Madonna della Catena was built around the year 1000 and preserves architectural ornaments made from embedded roof-tile fragments on its exterior walls, bell tower and façade. The area around the Chiesa dei Cappuccini was designed as a public green space with recreational facilities.

Museum, Ceramics and Contemporary Art

The cultural offering includes the Museo Farmacia di Roccavaldina, a museum in Roccavaldina. The ceramic vessels of La Farmacia were modelled in 1580 in the workshop of Mastro Antonio Patanazzi in Urbino. Casa Vermiglia houses a collection of contemporary art originating from a donation by the painter Nino Cannistraci Tricomi.

Immersive History and Memory

The Sala Immersiva offers another form of interpretation: its fully touch-sensitive walls reveal historical images of Roccavaldina through a virtual mist. Each photograph is accompanied by audio fragments featuring stories from oral memory and carefully reconstructed ambient sounds. The Antico Lavatoio points to an earlier part of everyday life: the women of Roccavaldina used it until the beginning of the 1970s.

E-Bike Route with Expansive Landscape Views

For an active day trip, the e-bike route starts at the Polo Olivettiano di Roccavaldina. It runs along gravel roads, technical sections and paved stretches, offering panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Aeolian Islands and the surrounding valleys.

Olives and Wine at the Antico Palmento

The local production history is reflected in the Antico Palmento. There, an old stone mill with a single large millstone preserves the memory of olive milling, with the stone moved using oxen or mules. The Antico Palmento also contains two large wine presses with the associated containers for collecting the must. It was then taken to the cellars and stored in barrels.
