Hillside park and Mediterranean maquis

The Parco Suburbano di Scafa is an approximately 4-hectare equipped park in a panoramic hillside location above the port of Contrada Bagnoli. The park borders the SS 113. It has a nature-oriented character. Dense vegetation typical of the Mediterranean maquis grows there. In the contrada of the same name, an equipped area forms part of the park. The hillside location above the port defines the park's connection to the area; the SS 113 also marks its link to the road network. The area of approximately 4 hectares gives the park a clearly defined framework within the landscape of Scafa.

Scafa Alta and views across the landscape

Scafa Alta offers a view of the Parco dei Nebrodi and the Mediterranean Sea. There are no architectural barriers at Scafa Alta. Anyone wishing to include this view in their daily itinerary can plan Scafa Alta as a separate landscape-focused stop. Scafa Alta provides a different accent because the view encompasses both the Mediterranean Sea and the Parco dei Nebrodi, thereby bringing the coast and the natural environment together.

Beaches in the surrounding area

The surrounding area of Scafa includes Spiaggia di Testa di Monaco, Spiaggia di San Gregorio, Spiaggia Ponte Naso and Spiaggia di Capo d'Orlando. These beaches complement Testa di Monaco as additional coastal destinations in the same surrounding area. Spiaggia di Testa di Monaco is located at Contrada Scafa 261. It has clear water and a rocky seabed. For coastal planning, this beach offers two distinct natural features in addition to its specific local reference.

Palaces and early wine-growing history

The palaces in the surrounding area of Scafa include Palazzo Milio - Perlongo, Palazzo Piccolo, Palazzo Petrelli and Palazzo Musarra. The four palaces provide an architectural accent alongside Scafa's natural and coastal features.

Palmenti dating from the 12th century BC, carved into the rock, were discovered in Contrada Scafa di Capo d’Orlando. These installations were used for pressing grapes and fermenting the must. The site adds a concrete connection between rock work and wine processing to the area's history.

The Festa di Maria SS. delle Grazie in Scafa traditionally takes place on the last weekend of July. During the 2026 procession, the route passed through the Contrade Scafa and Marcaudo to the Borgo di San Gregorio. For a trip centered around the Festa, the traditional date and the specific 2026 procession route can therefore be considered separately. The procession also creates a spatial connection between Scafa, Marcaudo and the Borgo di San Gregorio.
