Ficuzza is a small settlement where wildlife care, protected-area landscapes and history come together within a compact thematic area. The Centro Recupero Fauna Selvatica di Ficuzza is open year-round for the admission of wild animals. In winter, opening hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; in summer, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Guided visits are available by appointment after reservation, particularly for school classes and groups. This means that a visit to the centre can be planned as a nature-focused activity in its own right, with the reservation being expressly required.

Hiking Stages Through the Protected Area

The SI V10 hiking stage crosses the Bosco di Ficuzza Nature Reserve over a longer route from north to south. Along this stage are typical gorghi, meaning ponds formed by winter rainfall. These water bodies give the landscape a seasonal character and add a distinctive natural detail to the protected area.

The SI V11 hiking stage leads from Ficuzza into the protected area once again. Near Pizzo Castrateria, it climbs uphill and then leaves the park near the town of Godrano. Its route therefore has a different character from the north–south crossing of SI V10: here, the ascent, the park and the connection with the surrounding town shape the stage.

History and Attractions in the Surrounding Area

The history of Ficuzza is also linked to the park. The Real Casina di Caccia di Ficuzza was built at the end of the 18th century in the Park of Ficuzza at the request of the Bourbon king Ferdinand IV. For you, this clearly dated attraction complements the nature-focused impressions with a specific historical connection.

Several attractions with different characteristics are located in the immediate surroundings of Ficuzza. Rocca Busambra is a mountain, while Cascata delle Due Rocche is a waterfall. The surrounding area also includes Castello di Cefalà Diana as a ruin and Museo Civico Nicola Barbato as a museum. Around Ficuzza, you can therefore encounter mountain landscapes, water, historical traces and a cultural venue.
