Petralia Soprana between History, Views and Regional Flavors

Petralia Soprana brings history to life in vivid forms. The Matrimonio Baronale is a historical reenactment in 18th-century clothing held on the occasion of Ferragosto, commemorating the wedding of two nobles from Petralia Soprana on 15 August 1700. Churches, Monastery and Historic Sites

The Basilica dei SS. Apostoli Pietro e Paolo was rebuilt in the 14th century, consecrated in 1497 and extensively restored in the 18th century. Among its notable works of art is a wooden crucifix from the 17th century by Frate Umile Pintorno. The Convento dei Frati Minori Riformati has a cloister lined with columns and a refectory with a fresco of the Last Supper.

The Convento dei Frati Minori Riformati was built in 1611 and comprises a church and a former site that the friars converted into a park. The Chiesa di Santa Maria di Loreto stands in a place known by the popular name “u Castru” – meaning castle or fortress. From 1751 onward, it was fundamentally rebuilt and expanded.
