Casuzze between beaches, history and summer culture

Casuzze lies in a flat area on the Mediterranean coast and near a sandy beach that is just over 1 km long. In the district and its surroundings, there is a small piazza, the oldest houses, a cinema and theatre building, museums and ancient sites. The coastal area thus sits alongside local history and seasonal cultural offerings; there are also connections to Santa Croce, Ragusa and other places.

Free beaches and practical orientation

Casuzze is one of the locations with free beaches. Paid, fully automated, solar-powered public showers have been installed on the free beaches of Casuzze. Beachgoers can use RFID wristbands or rechargeable magnetic cards for the beach showers. The showers supplement the free beach with a public facility. This means that a free beach area and a technically equipped shower facility are available together by the water.

Piazza, cinema and local history

The centre of Casuzze is near a small piazza with the oldest houses in the district. The Giardino d’Estate cinema and theatre building is located near Piazza Favorita. The open-air cinema in Casuzze only shows screenings during the summer months. The Circolo Nautico Casuzze was founded on 1 August 1978.

Museums and ancient sites in the surrounding area

Caucana is one of the few known villages from Late Antiquity and the Byzantine period. Casa di Montalbano, a museum, is located in the immediate vicinity of Casuzze. The Parco archeologico di Kaukana, an ancient site, is also located in the immediate vicinity of Casuzze. The Museo di Kamarina, a museum, and Kamarina, an ancient site, are also located in the surrounding area of Casuzze. The history of the surrounding area thus extends from Late Antiquity and the Byzantine period to the ancient sites of Kaukana and Kamarina. Getting around between Casuzze and the neighbouring towns

A local bus route connects Casuzze with Santa Croce and Ragusa. In addition, a municipal shuttle connected Santa Croce Camerina, Punta Secca, Caucana, Casuzze and Koala Maxi on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 31 July until the end of August, with night-time return journeys. For journeys between Casuzze and the neighbouring towns, both the destinations served by the bus route and the shuttle’s limited days and months therefore play a role. The shuttle’s night-time return journeys connected the places in both directions.
