Punta Braccetto: Rocky Coast, Caves and Culture

Coast, rocks and a designated natural area

Punta Braccetto reveals its distinctive coastal character where the rocky Colombara promontory, also known as Braccio della Colombara, extends more than 200 metres southeast into the sea. West of the town, towards the wide beach of Randello, the coast becomes rocky and rugged. The numerous coves along this stretch are called “Canalotti” and give the landscape a clearly structured character.

The natural area includes “Punta Braccetto, Contrada Cammarana”, designated as the ZSC/ZPS protected area ITA080004. At the foot of the promontory is also the Antro di Orfeo, one of two caves at this location.

Beaches in the surrounding area

Spiaggia di Punta Braccetto beach is located in the immediate vicinity of Punta Braccetto. Spiaggia di Torre di Mezzo is also nearby. Spiaggia di Kamarina and Spiaggia La Lanterna are located in the surrounding area of Punta Braccetto.

At the beach access points in Punta Braccetto on Via Salina and Via del Mare, the installation of PVC walkways, footbridges and ramps was nearly complete.

The waters around Punta Braccetto are particularly popular with snorkellers and scuba divers because of their numerous caves and rocks. The rocks, coves and caves complement the beaches with a more varied marine landscape.

Torre Vigliena and the history of the promontory

The ruins of Torre Vigliena, also known as Torre del Brazzetto, stand on the Braccio della Colombara promontory. Baron Pietro Celestri commissioned the construction of Torre Vigliena in 1600 to defend against raids by pirates from the African coast.

Museums and archaeological sites

The Casa di Montalbano museum is located in the immediate vicinity of Punta Braccetto. The Parco archeologico di Kaukana archaeological site is also located nearby. The Museo di Kamarina museum and the Kamarina archaeological site are located in the surrounding area of Punta Braccetto.

Events and local cuisine

The 2026 summer programme of the 17th Notte Saracena included events at the “Angolo del Ritrovo” information point next to Piazza dei Tramonti in Punta Braccetto. The 2026 programme also included the “Punta Braccetto svelata” excursion, a walk through the town, its stories and hidden treasures.

A “Sagra della Pizza + Arancina” was scheduled for 5 September 2026 to conclude the summer programme. Binding registration for this event was required at the information point by 2 September.
