Antholz Mittertal: Trails, Waterfalls and Winter Landscape

Antholz Mittertal between mountain scenery and valley trails

Antholz Mittertal is located at an altitude of 1,250 m and is surrounded by the impressive mountain scenery of the Rieserferner Group. Antholz Mittertal is a starting point for walks, hikes to mountain pastures, mountain tours and cycling tours; the cycle path leads as far as the entrance to the Antholz Valley.

The Klammbach Waterfall is located above Antholz Mittertal and originates directly from the glacier of the Rieserferner Group. It can be viewed up close from a panoramic platform. The hike to the Klammbach Waterfall starts at the festival grounds in Antholz Mittertal and leads uphill through a shady forest along Trail No. 12. At the Egger farms, there is an optional ascent of around 15 minutes to the Egger Waterfall.

Panoramic trails and peaceful hikes

The Antholz Mittertal panoramic circular trail combines quiet forest and meadow paths with views of the village and the surrounding mountains. The trail continues to the Egger farms, which are ideal for a relaxing stop.

The Müllerkofl circular trail runs around the wooded ridge above Antholz Mittertal, following quiet forest paths with beautiful views of the valley and passing the historic Burgegga Mill and traditional farmsteads. Kumpflalm offers views across the Antholz Valley and is a starting point for further hikes and panoramic trails in the upper valley.

A hike from the Antholz Mittertal sports zone leads to the Mittertal Ochsenalm. The destination is the unstaffed Mittertal Ochsenalm at an altitude of 2,083 m.

In Antholz Mittertal, Tonis Woldwegile is a family-friendly nature trail with play and learning stations centered around the theme of the forest.

Winter in the Antholz Valley

The winter hike from Antholz Mittertal to Lake Antholz leads through the snow-covered valley landscape along a mostly prepared winter hiking trail to Lake Antholz. For cross-country skiing, the Valle Anterselva track runs on natural snow along the village. It invites you to take a tour both to the entrance of the valley and to the biathlon stadium.

The Riepen ski slope is located in Antholz Mittertal. In addition to the ski slope, there is a SnowPark and a Kids Park.

Culture and local stories

At the “Rieserferner Find” themed trail station in Antholz Mittertal, it is reported that innkeeper Gottfried Leitgeb found 2,700-year-old items of clothing at the Gamsbichljoch in the Rieserferner Group at an altitude of 2,850 m above sea level in the summer of 1992. They include two trouser legs and leather parts of a shoe.

The Gruber-Stöckl was rebuilt in 1872 and decorated by the painter Rudiferia in 1884.

Getting there and finding your way around

Bus route 431 connects Olang-Antholz railway station and Lake Antholz with the “Antholz Mittertal” bus stop. The hike to the Mittertal Ochsenalm begins at the sports zone, while the route to the Klammbach Waterfall starts at the festival grounds.
