Petschied combines a distinctive connection to church history with trails through slopes, forests and mountain landscapes. For your travel planning, it is therefore worth taking a look at St. Nicholas Church, the trails starting from Pezzè and Hinterlüsen, and the various summer and winter destinations around the village.
Church and traces of the past
St. Nicholas Church in Petschied was first mentioned in documents in 1446. Its exterior façade features a large fresco of St. Christopher from the 16th century.
The church is also associated with a special spring legend: it was probably built on the site of an older spring sanctuary. A spring rises beside the altar; its water flows through the chancel to an outdoor fountain.
Clay fragments found on the Gschlierer (Faller) Bühel above the church have been dated to the Bronze Age, from 2300 to 1000 BC. At the end of June, the Petschied church festival is traditionally celebrated with a Holy Mass, a procession and a blessing of the stream.
Walks, cycling route and summer trails
For a walk, the Stations of the Cross follows a two-hour route from Pezzè (Petschied) along the Rio Lasanca. The river is also known as the Rio di Luson; the route then continues to the sports area and on to the centre of Lüsen. The two-hour duration gives the outing a fixed timeframe.
The cycling route runs from Lüsen Dorf to the small Church of St. Nicholas in Petschied and back via the Stations of the Cross, the Old Craftsmen’s Zone and the bathing pond. This provides a complete loop for day planning, with both the start and finish in Lüsen Dorf.
In summer, a hike leads to the Rifugio Monte Muro mountain hut and onward to Monte Muro (2,332 m), which is considered a panoramic viewpoint with impressive views. The route combines the trail to the mountain hut with the subsequent trail up 2,332-metre-high Monte Muro.
Winter destinations around Petschied
A ski tour begins in Petschied/Laseider at an altitude of 1,430 m and leads via the Gschlierer Alm and the Lüsner Joch to Maurerberg. The starting point at 1,430 m gives this tour a specific elevation reference.
There is also a 5 km circular cross-country ski trail near the sports area in Hinterlüsen. A length of five kilometres is specified for planning the loop.
Another route begins at Petschied/Hinterlüsen and follows the valley to the Halslhütte. The trail to the Halslhütte follows the valley and therefore differs from the route via the Gschlierer Alm and Lüsner Joch.
Landscape and location references
In Pezzè, several farmsteads lie along the road, surrounded by green slopes and dense spruce forests. The road to Pezzè climbs towards the Passo delle Erbe, which connects Lüsen with the Ladin Antermoia Valley. The village landscape therefore brings together farmsteads, green slopes and dense spruce forests as distinct landscape features.
Further destinations for your travel planning: Antholz Mittertal, Vernago, Stulles, Colle di Fuori, Santo Stefano, Reschen Am See, Ridanna and Vals.
