Badia combines landscapes, Ladin culture and activities suited to a variety of family interests. Among alpine meadows, historic sites, playful experiences and winter sports, you can discover the character of the area from several distinct perspectives.

Nature Among Trails and Alpine Meadows

The Sentiero dei larici connects the Rüdeferia and Rü farmsteads above San Cassiano in the municipality of Badia. At the same time, the trail forms part of the boundary of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park. As an educational nature trail with interactive stations, it is particularly suitable for families with children. It combines a nature-focused theme with a child-friendly way of discovering the surroundings together. The connection between the farmsteads and the nature park boundary gives the trail a clear spatial framework, while the interactive stations add an educational approach to the landscape.

The circular hike from Badia through the Armentara meadows leads through flower-filled alpine meadows and unspoilt nature. Another distinctive feature of the landscape is the mountain lake Lech Dlá Lé, which is designated as a natural monument. Ladin History and Sacred Sites

The Rüdeferia Mill in the municipality of Badia is a protected architectural monument. The Rüdeferia Mill provides an architectural highlight, while Sotciastel adds an archaeological dimension. Archaeological finds at Sotciastel near Badia suggest that the area was already inhabited during the Bronze Age. The well-preserved Ladin farmsteads of Badia are known as “viles”.

The hamlet of Oies is a much-visited pilgrimage site; its focal point is the birthplace of the missionary Josef Freinademetz. The cellar of the Oies farmstead was converted into a chapel and decorated with works by the artists Kollreider from Lienz and Lois Irsara from Badia. The parish church of Badia, the Church of St James and St Leonard, has a Gothic bell tower and a Rococo-style interior. It is first mentioned in a document from the 14th century. In Oies, the chapel is located in the cellar of the farmstead; in Badia, the bell tower and Rococo interior shape the church building.

The Rait de San Linert, the ride in honour of Saint Leonard, takes place in Badia on the second Sunday in November. The fixed date in November provides a specific timeframe for travel planning.

Family Experiences and Skiing

At SummerPark La Crusc, visitors can try their hand at panning for gold and visit a dragon cave, among other activities. The “Baby La Crusc” ski slope is 300 metres long and particularly suitable for beginners. Together with the interactive stations along the Sentiero dei larici, this creates a range of options for families looking for playful, nature-focused or first sporting experiences.
