Monastic history and Romanesque architecture

Innichen can be explored through a combination of cultural history and alpine experiences. A Benedictine monastery was founded in Innichen (San Candido) in 769. San Candido is considered the oldest monastery and one of the oldest settlements in Tyrol. Hiking trails with views of San Candido

Monte Baranci also offers various ways to experience the surrounding area. The hike from San Candido to Piccola Rocca dei Baranci leads to a viewpoint overlooking San Candido. On part of the ascent, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo can also be seen. The route thus combines views of the town with a tangible experience of the landscape and is suitable as a guide for travellers looking for both a viewpoint and distinctive Dolomite peaks while hiking.

The activities at Monte Baranci vary by season. In summer, there are peaceful hiking trails, an adventure park for children and a summer toboggan run. In winter, family-friendly ski slopes and tobogganing opportunities are added. Cycling between Italy and Austria

For cycling travellers, the San Candido–Lienz cycle path is a destination in its own right. It follows the Drau Cycle Path for 44 kilometres and is rated as easy. The route connects San Candido with Lienz in Austria and is suitable for all types of bicycles, including e-bikes. Its length, rating and direction make the route easy to compare with shorter or more demanding outings, without requiring you to commit to a particular type of bicycle.

Another perspective is offered by the mountain bike tour from San Candido through Val Campo di Dentro to the Drei-Zinnen-Hütte. Along the route, the massifs of the Sexten Dolomites draw closer. Here, the focus is less on the length of the route than on how the impression of the landscape changes during the ride.
