Völs am Schlern can be discovered through historic sites and varied landscapes. Prösels Castle, the religious buildings in the village and Peterbühl lead into the history of the area; at Völser Weiher and along the 7-Pond Trail, water, nature and the cultural landscape take centre stage. When choosing a hotel in Völs am Schlern, you can set the focus of your trip between culture, hiking, seasonal experiences and regional cuisine.

Castle, Churches and Archaeological Traces

Prösels Castle was built around 1200 by the Lords of Völs. In the early 16th century, Leonhard von Völs expanded the complex into a Renaissance castle. The building therefore provides a concrete insight into two important phases of its history, although its medieval origins and the later Renaissance expansion should not be confused with one another.

In the village, St Michael's Chapel (cemetery chapel) stands next to the parish church of Völs am Schlern. The chapel dates from the Romanesque period and now houses an archaeological collection as well as the Völs parish museum. The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary is a late Gothic parish church. These two religious buildings allow Romanesque and late Gothic architecture to be viewed directly as distinct historical forms of expression.

The historically significant hill of Peterbühl lies west of the village centre. This is where the beginnings of Völs am Schlern and the entire Schlern area are located; people settled there many millennia before Christ. The Peterbühl themed trail documents archaeological finds from various periods, from the Late Bronze Age to the early Middle Ages. Information boards present, among other things, house pits, enclosure walls and fortifications.

Völser Weiher Between Nature Park and Seasonal Use

Völser Weiher lies at the foot of the Schlern, amid the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park. It covers 1 ha, lies at an altitude of 1,036 m and reaches a maximum depth of 3.5 m. The pond has a public bathing jetty and a sunbathing lawn. In summer, the pond is used for swimming; in winter, for ice skating. As a result, the same landscape plays a different role in travel planning depending on the season.

The 7-Pond Trail for Extended Tours

The 7-Pond Trail connects seven ponds between Völser Aicha and St. Konstantin: Salmseiner Weiher, Gflierer Weiher, Völser Weiher, Huber Weiher, Umser Weiher, Oachner Weiher and St. Konstantiner Weiher. Sections of the trail pass through varied natural surroundings and an ancient, unique cultural landscape, as well as through the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 7-Pond Trail takes around 4 hours and is 13.2 km long. It is not suitable for pushchairs; this information is therefore just as much part of a realistic assessment of the tour as its duration and length.

From May to October, Shuttle Bus No. 13 runs from Völs am Schlern via St. Anton directly to Völser Weiher. This seasonal connection is therefore one of the specific transport details relating to the pond and complements the information needed for a stay in which the lake or the landscape of the nature park plays a role.

Regional Cuisine and Hay Bath

Völser Kuchlkastl takes place in Völs am Schlern from 1 October to 31 October 2026. The focus is on seasonal and, above all, regional products, including meat from Völs cattle, local game meat, and vegetables and fruit from the restaurants' own gardens. The hay bath originated in Völs am Schlern. Both themes complement the historical and landscape impressions with regional culinary culture and a distinctive wellness tradition.
