Tiers am Rosengarten: Hiking, Nature and History

Tiers am Rosengarten lies at the foot of the Rosengarten massif and opens onto a landscape where hiking trails, alpine routes, nature experiences and historic sites come together. Numerous hiking trails and alpine routes lead from Tiers to the Rosengarten massif. The Cabrio cable car connects Tiers am Rosengarten with the Rosengarten mountain world and takes visitors to the Carezza Dolomites ski and hiking area in seven minutes.

Between the Rosengarten, Tschamin Valley and Scenic Viewpoints

The Tschamin Valley lies between the Schlern and Rosengarten massifs. A hike into the Tschamin Valley to the Rechter Leger starts at the Steger Säge sawmill at the entrance to the Tschamin Valley. The Steger Säge is now a rare example of a water-powered Venetian sawmill. The Rechter Leger is considered a particularly beautiful viewpoint and resting place. The Wuhnleger is a pond in Tiers am Rosengarten and a viewpoint for the alpine glow on the Rosengarten.

Hikes with Different Starting Points

The hike to the Grasleitenhütte starts at the roundabout in Weißlahnbad. The ascent leads to the Grasleitenhütte at an elevation of 2,165 m. In addition, a guided hike leads over the Taltbühl to the protected Totmoos biotope.

Forest and Water for Families

The “Forest & Water” nature trail is a circular hiking trail that starts and ends at the valley station of the Tiers cable car. Along the way, it takes families and children to 20 stations.

Chapels and Historic Paths

The small Chapel of St. Zyprian is a late Romanesque building with a barrel vault, a rounded apse and a low tower. Its exterior frescoes from the 17th century depict the miraculous rescue of the Platzlinderwiese. The chapel can only be viewed from the outside; the interior is not accessible. The Historical Walk begins at the Chapel of St. Zyprian and leads past eleven historically interesting sites in Tiers.

The Chapel of St. Sebastian also points to the village’s past. It dates back to a vow made about 400 years ago, when the plague reached Tiers. A contemplative trail leads from the centre of Tiers to this chapel. At the same time, Tiers am Rosengarten played an important role in the early development of South Tyrol’s alpine routes.

Mobility, Refreshments and Choosing Your Accommodation

The CallBus Tiers has more than 20 stops and connects, among other places, the village centre with St. Zyprian, Weißlahnbad and Oberstraße. Along the hiking trails, family-run mountain huts invite visitors to stop for refreshments and serve South Tyrolean specialities. A small traditional South Tyrolean Marende is offered during the sunset hike to the Wuhnleger.
