Fundres between Farm Trails, Mountain Lakes and Church History

Discover Fundres

Fundres can be explored through two themes: paths leading into the alpine and mountain lake landscape, and St. Martin’s Church with its historical connections. The Pfunderer Farm Trail, the Mountain Lakes Circuit and the Pfunders Alpine Huts Circular Trail offer different options for planning your day, while the chapel, church festival and serpentine provide additional specific historical links. If you would like to combine nature and culture, you can organize the following destinations according to your preferred focus.

Church and Local History

St. Martin’s Church in Pfunders was first mentioned in 1397. The church was built between 1808 and 1810. Inside, the barrel vault is decorated with frescoes by Plazidus Altmutter. The cemetery chapel beside St. Martin’s parish church in Pfunders was built in 1735. If you would like to include architecture, sacred art and historical dates in your travel plans, you will find several specific points of interest here.

Serpentine was mined at Gruipa Alm in the mid-18th century. Much of the serpentine extracted at Gruipa Alm was used for the green wall cladding in Brixen Cathedral. The history of this material therefore extends from its extraction at Gruipa Alm to the green wall cladding in Brixen Cathedral.

Trails with Different Focal Points

The Pfunderer Farm Trail is six kilometers long, takes about two hours and has an elevation gain of 250 meters. It also passes the Feurerhof farm with its ice cellar. You can assess the tour based on its distance, approximate duration and elevation gain and fit it into your daily schedule.

The Pfunders Alpine Huts Circular Trail leads to Gampiel Alm, where families can also visit a small petting zoo. The trail also leads to Egger-Bodenalm, which has a cheese dairy on the high alpine pasture. When planning, you can therefore choose between an alpine destination with a petting zoo and one with a cheese dairy.

Mountain Lakes and Alpine Meadows

The Mountain Lakes Circuit in Pfunders leads to secluded mountain lakes and through unspoiled alpine meadows. If you would like to focus on lakes and alpine meadows during a hike, you can include this route in your considerations.

Church Festival and Kirschta

The Pfunders church festival always takes place on the fourth weekend after Easter. The “Kirschta” commemorates the church’s consecration day on May 20, 1810. Both dates give the local history a firm connection to church traditions.
