Trafoi combines a village with waterfall trails, high-altitude mountain destinations and impressive views of the glaciated Ortler massif. Trails around the village lead through the surrounding area; a tour to Furkelhütte takes you into the alpine heights above the village. The waters of the Trafoi waterfalls, the spruce forest around a pilgrimage site and the view of the Ortler massif create contrasting landscape accents. The naturatrafoi visitor centre is also located in the village of Trafoi, directly on the famous Stelvio Pass road.

Waterfalls and Heilige Drei Brunnen

The hiking trail to the Trafoi waterfalls is a circular route and leads to three roaring waterfalls. Along the way, it passes Heilige Drei Brunnen. The waterfalls and Heilige Drei Brunnen are therefore located along the same route, but represent different focal points.

Another way to get your bearings is the car park directly next to Heilige Drei Brunnen: From there, you can reach the Trafoi waterfalls on foot in about one hour. The approximate walking time gives access from the car park a clear time frame. The waterfall trail therefore remains a separate planning section, while the ascent to Furkelhütte is considered a separate high-altitude destination.

Furkelhütte and Views of the Ortler

Furkelhütte is located in the Vinschgau valley at 2,153 metres above Trafoi. It can be reached by the Trafoi chairlift or on foot via the well-marked Trail No. 17; the walk takes about two hours. Both routes lead to Furkelhütte and differ in their means of travel: one uses the chairlift, while the other follows the marked Trail No. 17. If you choose to walk up, you can allow about two hours for this section.

From Furkelhütte, you can enjoy an impressive view of the heavily glaciated Ortler massif. The hut is therefore located above the village and leads into an alpine high-altitude setting. The elevation of the destination and the view of the Ortler massif form a separate focus alongside the trails in the village area.

Peaks around Trafoi

The Punta Alta summit is located in the immediate vicinity of Trafoi. Punta della Forcula, Dosso di Tabaretta and Monte di Tàrres are also nearby. The four peaks add further destinations in the immediate surroundings of the village to Trafoi’s mountain profile.

Winter Trail and Destinations in the Wider Area

A winter hike leads directly from the village of Trafoi through a romantic spruce forest to the Heilige Drei Brunnen pilgrimage site. Its direct start in the village distinguishes this route from the access to the waterfalls from the car park directly next to Heilige Drei Brunnen. The trail connects the village, forest and pilgrimage destination in a winter landscape.

For excursions of cultural interest, St. Johann Abbey is located near Trafoi. Abbazia di Monte Maria is situated in the wider regional surroundings of Trafoi. The two monasteries are therefore located in areas around Trafoi that differ in geographical scope.
