Gargazon Among Apple Orchards and Border History

The old parish church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist in Gargazon was first mentioned in 1337. Gargazon's new parish church was built between 1900 and 1930 in the historicist style of Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic architecture. It is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The two churches therefore offer different historical perspectives on the village's religious buildings.

Kröll Tower survives as the ruins of a former castle. It probably served as a watchtower on the border. The ruins and the presumed border function point to Gargazon's historical role without assigning the tower a present-day use.

The water of the Aschler Brook plunges 47 metres vertically into the gorge. Together with the ruins of Kröll Tower and the rest areas, this natural feature makes the trail a hike where families and guests interested in culture can combine different interests.
