Historic Sites in Moos in Passeier

The Museo Alta Passiria – Bunker Mooseum is housed in a former bunker dating from the 1940s.

The Museo Alta Passiria also serves as an information centre for the Texel Group Nature Park and the former Schneeberg mine.

The grounds of the Museo Alta Passiria include an enclosure for Alpine ibex. There, you can observe the animals from close by, adding a direct nature experience to your museum visit.

Water and Trails around Moos

From the church in Moso, the footpath leads towards Plan as far as the first bridge. After 150 m, a walking path branches off to the left towards wooden footbridges, from which you can see the Stieber Waterfall. Those heading to the waterfall along this route can use the turn-off after 150 m as a reference point for continuing to the footbridges.

At the Stieber Waterfall, the Pfeldererbach initially plunges 19 m and then drops another 18 m into the Passer.

The MuseumHinterPasseier – Stiëber Mooseum is housed in an old hydroelectric power station at the foot of the Stieber Waterfall in Moos. The museum explores hydropower as well as the history of technology and electricity in Hinterpasseier.

Church and Art History

The parish church of the Assumption of Mary was built in 1402/03 in the Gothic style, with a 52 m-high pointed tower.

The Stations of the Cross in the parish church of the Assumption of Mary were created by the Passeier artist Nikolaus Auer of the Passeier School of Painting. The high altar painting dates from the Baroque period and adds another art-historical detail to the church interior.

The Ibex Trail as a Nature Trail

The Ibex Trail begins shortly after the Glass Tower, the entrance to the museum, and is freely accessible. This makes it possible to incorporate the trail as an independent section into your exploration of Moos.

The Ibex Trail includes a dry-stone wall that provides a habitat for lizards, spiders, beetles, wild bees, mosses and tiny flowers. Those who walk slowly will find an illustrative connection here between trail design and close observation of small-scale nature.

Timmelsjoch Road and Passer Gorge Trail

Timmel Transit explores the road-building history of Timmelsjoch Road on the South Tyrolean side. Timmel Transit is housed in a former barracks dating from 1930.

Timmel Transit is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from the end of May to the end of October, provided that Timmelsjoch Road is open to traffic. Its opening hours are therefore expressly dependent on the road's traffic status.

The following is also important when planning a section of your route: the Passer Gorge Trail is not suitable for pushchairs and bicycles are not permitted. You should take this restriction into account when choosing your activities and when travelling with small children. Those travelling by bicycle therefore cannot use the Passer Gorge Trail as a cycling route.
