Lappach between the reservoir, high mountains and village history

Lappach showcases the mountain world at the Neves Reservoir through trails, water, village history and regional production. Above the village, the Neves Reservoir forms the head of the valley; the mountains of the Zillertal Alps surround it. For your orientation, high-alpine landscapes come together here with experiences that begin in the village, at the gorge or on an alpine pasture. At the reservoir and in the gorge, water appears in two forms: as a storage basin at the head of the valley and as a rushing current above the village.

High-altitude trail through the glacial landscape

The Neveser Höhenweg starts at the Neves Reservoir in Lappach. From there, it can be started either in the direction of the Edelraut Hut or in the direction of the Chemnitzer Hut. Its route leads over glacial moraines and secluded rocky cirques through the glacial landscape of the three-thousand-metre peaks Weißzint, Möseler and Turnerkamp on the Zillertal main ridge. This places a route at the centre whose landscape is characterised by striking landforms and high-alpine peaks.

Water trails around Lappach

The challenging, fully secured trail through the Lappach Gorge can be combined with an approximately 1.5-hour circular hike. The loop starts in the village of Lappach at the “Magic of Water” Museum and leads back there. The Lappach Gorge offers rushing water, cooling droplets and a special microclimate. The range therefore extends from a high-altitude alpine trail to a water-themed hike starting and ending in the village.

Church history and gray cheese

The “Sand Agnesen Church” in Lappach can be traced back to 1426. It was rebuilt and enlarged between 1812 and 1815; it was consecrated on 19 September 1819.

At the Neves-Alm on Lake Neves, farmer Agnes Laner demonstrates how Ahrntal gray cheese is made. The cheese can then be tasted. This gives you a direct insight into a regional speciality, complementing the lakeside landscape with a traditional and culinary aspect.

Cross-country skiing and ice climbing

The 14.7 km Mühlwald–Lappach cross-country ski trail leads from Mühlwald to Lappach. It runs through snow-covered forest and meadow landscapes and is suitable for both classic cross-country skiing and skating.

The Lappach Ice Garden is a place for ice climbing on natural icefalls in Lappach. The access road leads from Lappach towards the Neves Reservoir. After approximately 2 km, you will reach the junction towards Zösenberg; the car park is then at the second turn-off on the left. The approximately 2 km to the junction mark the first section of the access route; the second turn-off on the left to the car park follows afterwards. This sequence provides clear directions to the Ice Garden, while the natural form of the icefalls defines the character of the climbing site.
