Ahrntal between mining history and mountain trails

Ahrntal combines insights into mining history with trails around Cadipietra and the diverse attractions of Klausberg. This character is particularly evident in the village centre of Cadipietra: a group of dark-red-painted buildings once formed the administrative centre of the Società Mineraria di Predoi there.

Mining history in Cadipietra and Steinhaus

One of the defining buildings is the Chapel of Madonna di Loreto in Cadipietra. It was built in 1649 and reconsecrated after its extension in 1704. The Faktorhaus, the oldest building in this historic mining complex, is also located in Cadipietra. Together, both sites complement the distinctive architecture of the village centre with specific landmarks from different eras.

In Steinhaus/Cadipietra, the granary built in 1700 recalls the economic side of the mine. It served as a storage building for the goods needed to operate the mine. Its historic walls house a permanent exhibition that tells the stories of the people who worked in mining. It also displays historical objects from the collection of the Counts of Enzenberg, a family that operated as mining entrepreneurs in Ahrntal.

Easy trails with nature and history

For a walk around Cadipietra, the Sentiero panoramico Cadipietra is a good choice. The trail is easy and leads around the village. This allows you to get to know the surrounding area at a manageable walking pace, without the need for a demanding high-mountain tour to be the focus.

Another option is the accessible circular trail in Steinhaus/Cadipietra. It starts at the car park next to the Pfisterhaus and passes the tourist information office and the exhibitions of the Mining Museum. The circular trail combines nature, culture and history, offering insights into Ahrntal’s mining heritage.

Mountain landscape around Cadipietra

The mountains Kellerkopf, Kreuzkofel, Untermooskopf and Hohe Wand are located in the immediate vicinity of Cadipietra.

Klausberg: slopes, family attractions and mountain tours

The Klausberg ski area has 40 kilometres of slopes of all difficulty levels. At the Klausberg area, a water park with ponds, slides, bridges, Kneipp courses, and sand and mud baths is located at the mountain station. There is also a balance course near the water park in Cadipietra, which is particularly suitable for younger children.

Family Park Klausberg can be reached on foot, by mountain bike or by taking the K-Express cable car from Steinhaus. Hikes from the mountain station lead to Lago di Chiusetta. There are also more challenging high-mountain tours to one of the “three-thousanders”. The Klausberg-Flitzer is designated as operating in both summer and winter.

When choosing your accommodation in Ahrntal, you can therefore first decide which priorities should shape your trip. The historic sites in Cadipietra and Steinhaus suit a cultural and mining perspective, while the Sentiero panoramico Cadipietra and the accessible circular trail offer a different way to experience the landscape.
