Renon can be discovered through several distinctive features: historic railway connections, scenic landscapes, easy trails for different interests and places with deep cultural roots. This creates a destination where you can combine nature, activity, family experiences and history.

Mobility with a History

The Renon narrow-gauge railway operates year-round and connects Klobenstein, Oberbozen and Maria Himmelfahrt. It opened in 1907 and is the last of its kind in South Tyrol. The Renon cable car connects Bolzano with Oberbozen in 12 minutes. A journey on the Renon railway takes 18 minutes.

Landscapes and Panoramic Views

The extensive hiking areas between the sunny vineyards and the 2,260 m-high Rittner Horn are connected by hiking trails, e-bike routes and mountain promenades. From Rittner Horn, you can enjoy sweeping views of the Dolomites UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, the Sarntal Alps and the Stubai Alps.

The Renon earth pyramids are a distinctive natural attraction and can be visited at three locations in Lengmoos, Oberbozen and Unterinn. From Soprabolzano station, take the Renon railway to Klobenstein; from there, trail no. 24 leads to the earth pyramids in Longomoso and is suitable for prams.

Easy Trails and Family Experiences

At Corno del Renon, the Sentiero Panoramico follows an easy 2,863 m-long trail with an elevation gain of 99 m and a walking time of 45 minutes; it is also suitable for prams. Above Soprabolzano, the Sentiero selvaggio delle meraviglie is an easy family trail, approximately 3.6 km long, with stations and games about the wildlife of Renon.

From the centre of Oberbozen, trail no. 15 leads to Wolfsgrubener See in approximately 30 to 35 minutes. In summer, swimming is possible in Wolfsgrubener See, and you can also enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake. In winter, you can go ice skating on Wolfsgrubener See. The “Il mondo favoloso di Toni” trail at Corno del Renon is an easy circular route, approximately 2 km long, starting from the mountain station at Cima Lago Nero.

Culture, Farms and Regional History

Plattner Hof is 600 years old and is one of the oldest farmsteads on Renon. Next to Plattner Hof, there is a nature trail where visitors can experience the world from a bee’s perspective. The history of the Lengmoos Commandery dates back to the 12th century. At that time, it was built as a hospice for pilgrims travelling along the Kaiserstraße and soon became a rural branch of the Teutonic Order.

From May to October, concerts, exhibitions, symposia and lectures take place in the historic rooms of the Lengmoos Commandery. The Renon Traditional Costume Collection offers an insight into more than 130 years of traditional costume history on Renon. The “Rebe” Trail is an artistically designed wine education hiking trail from Signato on Renon to Rencio in Bolzano.
