Fortress, Villas and Traces of Churches

Cadine combines fortress history with older buildings. Forte di Cadine (Buco di Vela roadblock) was built between 1860 and 1861 as a roadblock to prevent access to Trento and the Adige Valley. At Forte di Cadine, multimedia elements, a dynamic model, installations and explanatory panels illustrate the themes of the First World War and the fortified system in Trentino.

Another historical layer is represented by Villa Cazuffi: it was built in the second half of the 15th century. The building is surrounded by an enclosing wall, part of which still preserves old battlements. Fragments of 16th-century frescoes were discovered in the piano nobile. Together, the wall, battlements and frescoes give the villa a precise architectural profile without reducing its history to a single period.

The Chiesa dell'Addolorata also tells a story of change. It was built in the second half of the 19th century to replace a 14th-century church. Only the bell tower remains of the former church of Cadine, which was dedicated to Saint Helena. The main altar of the Chiesa dell'Addolorata was created in 1860 by the sculptor Stefano Verner using the old altar from the Church of Sant'Elena. The main altar thus refers both to the later church building and to the older Church of Sant'Elena.

Practical Routes at the Forte

Access to Forte Cadine is via an 80-metre-long path with a gravel and stabilized surface and a variable gradient of 4 percent; this is followed by a large level meadow. If you would like to combine the historic site with a walking route, you can include this access path as a separate section in your plans.

The Giro del Sorasass adds another military trace to the historical focus. It leads to an approximately 40-metre-long Austrian rifle gallery with eleven firing positions. For travellers interested not only in buildings but also in military installations in the landscape, this route offers an additional tangible connection to history.

Hike to Sorasas

The Cadine–Sorasas–Cadine route is a moderately difficult hike covering 7.03 km and lasting approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. It begins in Cadine and follows a circular route to Sorasas. Along the way, the route offers an elevated view of the Adige Valley. The combination of a circular route and elevated views particularly appeals to travellers who also seek a landscape perspective while hiking.

Anyone looking for a hotel in Cadine will find two specific points of reference for planning their stay: the village's cultural and historical buildings and the circular hike to Sorasas, with views of the Adige Valley. Depending on personal interests, the area's cultural history or the experience of moving through the landscape can shape the stay.
