Sassofortino lies on a rocky spur overlooking the Colline Metallifere. The village combines its landscape with traces of its medieval origins and several cultural sites. Sassofortino emerged in the Late Middle Ages, around 1300, following the abandonment of the Castello di Sassoforte. Historical traces and art in the village

The Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo dates back to the 15th century. Following restoration in the 19th century, it was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style. This means that the building reflects both a medieval origin and a later architectural influence.

At the summit of Sassoforte, the remains of the Castello di Sassoforte extend along the entire perimeter of a rhyolite platform.
