Campo Ai Peri: GTE, Beaches, and Monte Orello
Hiking with Different Stage Profiles
Campo Ai Peri connects several distinctive sections of the Grande Traversata Elbana, or GTE for short. One stage variant leads from Cavo to Porto Azzurro and lists Buraccio/Campo ai Peri as an alternative stage point. This means you encounter the place in connection with a route that links different landscape areas of the island.
The second stage of the GTE, from Porto Azzurro to Procchio, passes through Campo ai Peri and reaches the vineyards of Campo ai Peri. It is 21.33 km long. Another route connection leads downhill from Campo ai Peri to Porto Azzurro via Trail 210. The different directions and lengths are relevant to your planning if you want to choose between a longer stage and a clearly defined section.
There are no accommodation establishments along the GTE. For overnight stays, you must descend to inhabited places. Anyone including a hotel or other accommodation in Campo Ai Peri in their plans should take this distinction between the route and the inhabited places into account.
Monte Orello: Mediterranean Scrub, Military History, and Route
The Campo ai Peri–Monte Orello–Acquabona trekking route starts in Campo ai Peri at the junction of the road from Buraccio and the provincial road near Casa Marchetti. From Campo ai Peri, the GTE heads toward Monte Orello through stands of fragrant rosemary and broom. As the route continues, it descends from Monte Orello and reaches an old, wide military road shaded by dense Mediterranean scrub.
The summit of Monte Orello lies at 337 meters above sea level. Further remains of military forts can be found there. The route over Monte Orello also passes, in a clearing, old military fortifications that were used during the Second World War. This path therefore combines nature observation with tangible traces of the region's military history.
Beaches and Cultural Attractions in the Surrounding Area
Several beaches are located in the immediate vicinity of Campo Ai Peri: Spiaggia di Acquarilli, Spiaggia di Lacona, Spiaggia di Bagnaia, and Spiaggia Laconella. These beaches broaden the view of the landscape around the town to include various coastal destinations, while the GTE and Monte Orello represent a day plan more focused on activity and high-altitude trails.
