Campiglia Marittima Station is located in Tuscany and is classified by RFI as a PLUS-class station. The restored memorial statue of Lampo, the travelling dog, has returned to the station. Historical Structures: Campiglia Marittima and Rocca San Silvestro

The historic centre of Campiglia Marittima has been documented since the 11th century and forms a monumental complex as a whole. Rocca San Silvestro is a medieval mining settlement. It was founded in the 12th century for the exploitation of mineral resources and abandoned around the middle of the 14th century. Its historic urban structure has been preserved; at the same time, the settlement is significant to the history of European metallurgy.

Church, Museum and Theatre

The Pieve di San Giovanni was built around 1173 on a hill overlooking Campiglia. It was restored and reopened to the public on 24 June 2011. The Museo d'arte sacra displays liturgical and devotional objects belonging to the historical and artistic heritage of the Church of San Lorenzo. Access to this museum requires an enquiry with the parish of San Lorenzo.

The Teatro dei Concordi also has a clearly documented history: it was inaugurated on 26 December 1867. After closing at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it reopened and is now a cultural centre. Within the Rocca complex, the Museo della Rocca di Campiglia houses a museum with archaeological finds as well as a museum dedicated to the history of the medieval town of Campiglia. Sacred art, theatre, archaeology and local history therefore appeal to different cultural interests.

Experience Mining and Nature

The Parco Archeominerario di San Silvestro is located in Campiglia Marittima and covers 450 hectares. Visitors can enter the 360-metre-long gallery of the Miniera del Temperino wearing a hard hat. The Galleria Lanzi-Temperino can be traversed aboard a mine train. This offers a choice between two different mining experiences: walking through a gallery and travelling through the Galleria.

A municipal park with lakes is crossed by the warm Fossa Calda stream. Between the gardens, the stream forms two ponds that provide a habitat for migratory birds as well as resident swans and ducks. If you would like to combine culture and nature, you can therefore consider historic urban structures, sacred art, museums, mining and wildlife observation as separate focal points of your trip.
