Capezzano Pianore brings together historic architecture, archaeology and trails at specific locations. These include the Villa Borbone delle Pianore complex, the settlement of Acquarella, the parish church and trails with specific starting and ending points.

Villas and Imperial History

The Villa Borbone delle Pianore complex comprises three buildings from different periods. As a result, the focus is not only on a single building, but on an architectural complex with several historical time references. Zita of Bourbon was born at Villa Le Pianore on 9 May 1892; she later became the last empress of Austria. Alongside its architectural history, this biographical connection gives the name Villa Le Pianore a clearly tangible historical dimension.

Archaeology in Acquarella

The settlement of Acquarella in the Località Capezzano Pianore was inhabited repeatedly from late Archaic Etruria in the 6th century BC, throughout the Roman period, and into the Early Middle Ages in the 6th and 7th centuries AD. The excavations identified several rooms of a Roman farm used for olive oil production. The Civico Museo Archeologico di Camaiore displays finds from the ancient Roman villa on Via Acquarella. The settlement, the farm rooms and the museum finds shed light on different facets of the archaeological connection to the site.

Church and Epiphany Celebrations

The parish church of Capezzano Pianore also adds its own cultural accent: it has a monumental Agati-Tronci organ dating from 1895. The Epiphany celebrations in Capezzano Pianore included the 41st Rassegna delle Befane, organised by the Misericordia di Capezzano Pianore. The programme of the 2026 Rassegna delle Befane included a competition for the best Befanino and a traditional tombola in Parco Baleno. The celebrations in Capezzano Pianore also included the event “Aspettando la Befana 2026” on Via Italica on 5 January 2026, featuring an evening parade, live music and entertainment by folklore groups.

Trails with Clear Reference Points

Several trails in Capezzano Pianore are connected to specific starting and ending points. Section 1 of the Via Francigena in Camaiore reaches Villa Le Pianore via Via di San Michele. The Camaiore Antiqua circular trail “Capezzano – Santa Lucia” begins at Villa Borbone delle Pianore and runs along Via della Stretta. The Sentiero dell'Acquarella leads from Villa Cavanis in Capezzano to the forecourt of the Church of Santa Lucia.

Getting Around on Foot

There is a dedicated pavement along the Sarzanese; the route can be walked at key points, including in the centre of Capezzano Pianore, in the Acquarella area and at Villa Le Pianore. In addition, the Via Francigena runs not far from the Etruscan-Roman archaeological site of Acquarella.
