Minazzana Between Mountains and History

Minazzana lies below Monte Cavallo in the mountainous area of Seravezza. If you would like to explore a place through its landscapes, trails and culture, these themes can be connected here through specific routes and historical traces. The character of Minazzana includes both mountain panoramas and local traditions surrounding chestnuts and Tordelli.

Panoramas Along Cycling and Historic Trails

On the section from Minazzana to Basati of the Panorami dell'alta Versilia cycling route, there are views of the Versilia coast, the Vezza Valley, Monte Corchia and Pania della Croce. If you explore the landscape by bicycle, this section opens up wide views over the coast, valley and mountains. Pianaccio is Minazzana's panoramic viewpoint.

Another trail is connected with the work of the quarry workers from Minazzana. The path they used led to the Cave delle Cervaiole, where they worked, and includes panoramic sections overlooking the Serra Valley and the surrounding mountains. Today, this historic trail forms part of the SAV network, the Sentiero Alta Versilia.

Church and Traces of Local History

The Church of Santi Pellegrino e Ginesio was built at the beginning of the 18th century in place of an older chapel. The sculptor Stagio Stagi is also connected with Minazzana: he was born in Minazzana. The church and the artist's name therefore point to different periods in the history of the place.

The archaeological finds also date back a long way. In 1965, graves of the Ligurian-Apuani dating from the 3rd to the 2nd century BC were discovered in Minazzana. One of the graves in Minazzana contained a male burial with a helmet and sword.

The Minazzana–Giustagnana–La Cappella–Fabiano–Minazzana historical and naturalistic route follows an old mule track that connected Minazzana, Fabiano and La Cappella; a branch led to Giustagnana.

Tordelli, Chestnuts and Community Traditions

On the Le Vie del Tordello hiking route, you return to Minazzana, where you can taste the Tordelli of the Pubblica Assistenza. Another local speciality is Walter Giannini's metato in Minazzana. It is used to dry chestnuts and make flour from them.

A communal oven is also one of the village's traditional facilities. It was inaugurated as a public oven for baking together and socialising, and was open to the local community.
