Cinquale between the sea, nature and cycling paths

Beach and practical orientation by the water

Cycling paths with different points of reference

Several cycling connections make Cinquale appealing for different tour ideas. The “Biking the Via Francigena [family ride]” route is a 39 km circular route that passes through Cinquale. The 39 kilometres provide a concrete reference point for planning the time needed for a complete round trip. It follows both EuroVelo 5 and the Via Francigena.

The “Il Mare Apuano [family ride]” route follows EuroVelo 5 along the Apuan coastal promenade from Cinquale to Marina di Carrara and back. The “Lago di Porta – un’oasi di Natura [family ride]” route starts and ends in Cinquale. It runs along the banks of the Versilia River and Lago di Porta. The two routes differ in their points of reference: one follows EuroVelo 5 and the Via Francigena, while the other follows the Apuan coastal promenade as far as Marina di Carrara.

The Tyrrhenian cycling and walking path in Cinquale is connected to the path in Forte dei Marmi. On Cinquale’s coastal promenade, at the border with Forte dei Marmi, stands the “Walk” monument by artist Federico Benedetti.

Thermal spa and a special natural environment

The Terme della Versilia in Cinquale is a wellness centre and thermal spa. It was established following the discovery of salt-bromide-iodine-rich water and a peat deposit, and it has a thermal pool.

Lago di Porta in Capanne-Prato-Cinquale is Tuscany’s northernmost coastal wetland. The very rare and endangered butterfly Lycaena dispar lives in the Lago di Porta area. The rare European bittern (Botaurus stellaris) can also be observed there. Nature enthusiasts can look out for two different species at Lago di Porta: the butterfly Lycaena dispar and the bittern.

Walking and history around Cinquale

From Cinquale, paths to Monte Carchio in the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps can be reached in a short time. Hikes along the Gothic Line near Cinquale allow visitors to trace places and events through monuments, wartime fortifications and historical references. The fortified tower at the mouth of Lago di Porta Beltrame in Cinquale was built by the Medici in the 16th century to defend against raids by Saracen pirates.
