Montignoso combines historic architecture, a protected natural area, coastal experiences, thermal baths and local cuisine. Castello Aghinolfi and historical perspectives

Castello Aghinolfi can be experienced through several specific exhibition areas. The octagonal tower houses a museum exhibition showing, among other things, the various development phases of the building. In the restored Mastio, a permanent multimedia installation explains the castle's development phases using animated virtual reconstructions. The oldest documentary evidence regarded as authentic for Castello Aghinolfi dates from 764.

The Documentation Centre on the Gothic Line at Villa Schiff-Giorgini offers another historical perspective. It contains documents, memorabilia and photographs about the events of the Second World War in the area of the province of Massa-Carrara and Versilia. Together with the castle, this creates a broader view of history, connecting the building, remembrance and regional events.

Lago di Porta and paths through the landscape

Lago di Porta is a freshwater wetland close to the coast that survived the historic drainage works. The area is protected at European level and is also a Special Protection Area (SPA), where rare species of conservation importance occur. For you, the lake is therefore primarily a destination where landscape and nature observation take centre stage.

The short circular route around the Lago di Porta oasis starts and ends in Cinquale and runs along the embankments of the Versilia River and the lake. The Sentiero CAI 140 Linea Gotica is also used for trekking: it leads from the Pasquilio district of Montignoso towards Monte Folgorito. Both destinations offer different options for planning a trip between a manageable circular route and a trekking trail.

Cinquale: beach and thermal baths

The Green Beach di Cinquale is a free beach area with facilitated access for people with mobility impairments. Facilities include reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities, two Job chairs for assistance, a ramp leading to the sea, and beach platforms with sun protection and a mobile chair. These specific facilities are particularly relevant if, when choosing your beach destinations, you pay attention to more accessible routes and supportive equipment. The Terme della Versilia, a wellness centre and thermal baths, are also located in Cinquale di Montignoso.

Local specialities from Montignoso

Montignoso's regional character also includes traditional foods. Pane Marocco is made from corn flour and olives; this preparation has been passed down for centuries. Salsiccia di Montignoso is a traditional local product made from selected cuts of pork and spices.
