Peccioli: Art, History and Events

Peccioli offers different ways to explore art, history and local events. MACCA – Museo D'Arte Contemporanea a Cielo Aperto – is an open-air museum spread across Peccioli and its hamlets. Its collection comprises more than 70 works, predominantly large-scale installations. The Incisioni e Litografie – Donazione Vito Merlini collection at the Museo di Palazzo Pretorio comprises 279 prints, including engravings, lithographs, woodcuts and screen prints. In this way, Peccioli combines art in the open air with individual collections preserved in museums.

Archaeology and Sacred Art

At the Museo Archeologico di Peccioli, you can see finds from the Etruscan sanctuary of Ortaglia and from the archaeological area of Santa Mustiola. In the vicinity of Peccioli, the Ortaglia archaeological site preserves the remains of a sanctuary complex dating from the 6th to the 3rd century BC. This gives you access to very different types of evidence: museum finds stand alongside an archaeological site with its own historical depth.

The Museo d'Arte Sacra is housed in the Romanesque Pieve di San Verano, in the Cappella dell'Assunta. It contains a 13th-century panel attributed to Michele di Baldovino. The Pieve di San Verano dates from the 11th century and houses works by the Pisan school. The Torre Campanaria di Peccioli is 42 metres high, while the Museo di Palazzo Pretorio preserves three collections of icons.

Exhibitions with Views over the Valley

The Palazzo Senza Tempo hosts temporary and permanent exhibitions and has a large panoramic terrace overlooking the valley. The terrace complements the exhibitions with a spatial perspective, allowing you to combine interior spaces and landscape in a single thematic visit at this cultural venue.

Events Throughout the Year

The Anfiteatro Fonte Mazzola hosts concerts, performances and summer festivals. It can be reached on foot in a few minutes from Peccioli's main square and has an adjacent car park. The 11 Lune theatre festival takes place every year in July at the Anfiteatro Fonte Mazzola, while the Coppa Sabatini cycling race takes place in October. Alongside its permanent museums, Peccioli therefore offers recurring events that you can take into account when planning your trip.

Cycling Route, Planetarium and Regional Specialty

The Centro Astronomico di Libbiano includes a planetarium that helps visitors understand constellations and seasonal changes.
