Collescille between Mountain Setting and History

Collescille lies on the slopes of Monte Morricone at 944 m above sea level. From the village, there are viewpoints over the Campiano Valley as well as the Valcastoriana, Valle Oblita and Valle di Todiano valleys. An annual cultural event is the Festa della Madonna del Castello. It takes place every year in August in Collescille. Collescille is a hamlet of the municipality of Preci. August therefore marks a fixed point in the village's annual calendar, while the high-altitude setting and the surrounding paths provide further points of reference for planning your trip.

Towers, Churches and Local History Passed Down Through the Generations

Above the settlement stands the Torre di Collescille, a square watchtower. The tower served to protect the Abbey of Sant’Eutizio and, despite visible signs of age, remains intact.

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is also part of the village's history. Following extensive and complete restoration, it was reopened for worship. The church is also associated with a polychrome wooden statue of the seated Madonna and Child. The work dates from the second half of the 15th century and is attributed to the monastery of Macereto.

Sant'Antonio Abate in Collescille is a cultural heritage site of particular interest. Another historical trace leads to a manuscript from 1650, in which the village of Collescille is referred to as „Toccalomò“. Collescille also lies along a medieval route historically used by travelers on their way to Visso in the Marche region. Thus, sacred art, fortified architecture and older transport routes come together in the village.

Routes for Mountain and Landscape Experiences

Several specific routes pass through Collescille or lead from the village into the surrounding landscape. One path runs through the village and then joins the S.501 route, which descends to Borgo Preci. On the Valnerina hike from the Abbey of Sant’Eutizio to Cerreto di Spoleto, the signposts point toward Collescille after leaving the abbey. These two routes connect the village with different sections between the abbey, settlement and valley area.

A path leading from Collescille to the summit of Moricone passes over the Sella di Pian Callaio at an elevation of 1,288 m. Another route in the Monti Sibillini National Park runs via Preci, Sacovescio and Collescille before returning to Preci. This makes it possible to plan whether you would like to focus on historic places, valley views or a route with a higher point along the way. Collescille offers both cultural points of interest in the village and direct connections to the surrounding mountain landscape.
