Mezzopiano: Nature Trails, Lake Views and Culture
Hiking and Landscapes on Monte Malbe
The Anello M19 on Monte Malbe is a moderately difficult hiking trail through the mountain’s historic and natural landscapes. Monte Malbe has five hiking trails marked on site, as well as the Sentiero Fantastico.
Panoramic Views, Nature and Family-Friendly Trails
From the summit of Monte in the Parco del Colle della TrinitĂ , the view stretches across the Corciano area to Lake Trasimeno and, on clear days, to its green islands. The Belvedere on Itinerario 1 offers views of the hills around Lake Trasimeno and, on clear days, of its islands. The Troscia del Melo is considered one of the most important ecosystems on Monte Malbe because of its rich biodiversity. In this way, panoramic views and observing nature become two clear focal points.
The moderate Anello M19 hiking trail on Monte Malbe leads, among other places, to the Eremo di San Salvatore. The Parco del Colle della Trinità also has a children’s playground and woodland paths for hiking as well as cycling and walking excursions. This combination offers a clear choice between physical activity, playful discovery and more tranquil landscape experiences, especially for a trip with different interests each day.
Museums and History in Corciano
The Antiquarium in Corciano opened in 2009 and is divided into paleontological, prehistoric and protohistoric, and archaeological sections. There you can see fossils of Mesozoic ammonites from Migiana as well as remains of Quaternary mammals from Ellera. The collection also includes reconstructions of two princely chariots, which were found in April 1912 near Castel San Mariano in a tomb dating from the 6th century BC.
The Museo della Casa Contadina in Corciano documents the rural culture and economy that prevailed there until a few decades ago. It comprises four typical rooms from rural life: a kitchen, bedroom, pantry or storage room, and cellar and workshop. The museum also displays a wooden loom with accessories for weaving and spinning.
The medieval castle of Corciano is surrounded by a high wall; within the complex are lanes, stairways, palaces, towers, gardens, churches and bell towers. Solomeo, a village with a castle and narrow lanes paved with terracotta bricks, is also located in the municipality of Corciano. The Scuola di Arti e Mestieri in Solomeo, also within the municipality, offers courses in modeling, women’s tailoring, cutting and men’s tailoring, mending and repairing knitwear, horticulture and garden maintenance, as well as masonry.
