Discover Tordibetto: Castle, Churches and Festa della Mamma

Tordibetto combines a stone castle in the town center with churches, historical traces and a distinctive local festival tradition. The Castello di Tordibetto gives the town a historical connection: the castle is located in the center of Tordibetto and reflects the town’s history and architecture.

Castle and churches as historical points of reference

Outside the walls of the Castello di Tordibetto stands the Chiesa di San Bernardino. Another church is San Biagio, an 18th-century building near the boundary with the municipality of Bastia. San Biagio was severely damaged by the earthquakes of 1984 and 1997 and was almost completely overgrown with vegetation.

Ancient sites and regional culture

Several destinations with a historical character can be found in the immediate vicinity of Tordibetto. Rocca Maggiore Castle is considered an ancient site, as is the Temple of Minerva. Parco della Mamma and an established festival tradition

The bronze statue “Maternità” by Enrico Manfrini stands in Parco della Mamma. The work was inaugurated in 1970 and depicts a mother holding a child in her arms. The remains of a former church, enclosed by its surrounding walls, are also located in the same park. The park thus brings together sculpture and structural remains.

Parco della Mamma is also associated with the Festa della Mamma. The festival takes place there with prayers, discussions about motherhood, as well as social and community activities. Its history dates back to May 1957, when Don Otello Migliosi, the parish priest of Tordibetto di Assisi at the time, founded the Festa della Mamma. In 2022, it reached its 65th edition. The Pro loco di Tordibetto and the Confraternita San Bernardino da Siena helped keep this tradition alive.

The landscape is also part of the orientation around Tordibetto. Monte delle Croci, Monte Subasio and Monte Veduta del Lago are mountains in the surrounding area.
