Borgoricco: Graticolato, Museums and Religious Buildings
Borgoricco combines a distinctive landscape with the history of Roman land surveying, museums and religious buildings. If you are looking for a place with a clearly recognizable historical character and a range of cultural attractions for your trip to Italy, the municipality offers numerous themes to explore when planning your own itinerary.
The Graticolato shapes the landscape
The Graticolato of Borgoricco forms a checkerboard pattern of long, straight roads. This appearance is based on the centuriae of Roman land surveying: they were squares with sides measuring around 710 metres. In this way, a historical system of organization can be directly perceived as a spatial structure. For visitors interested in landscapes, history and the development of settlements, this pattern is one of the most informative features of the area.
Roman history in the museum
The Museo della Centuriazione Romana is divided into three sections dedicated to the prehistoric and early historic, Roman and post-antique periods. The museum's particularly impressive individual exhibits include a Roman horse burial that has survived in exceptionally good condition to this day.
Churches bearing traces of different periods
The religious buildings also span several centuries. The current building of the parish church of S. Leonardo was constructed in 1772 as a single-nave church. The Oratorio del Rosario on Via Straelle has a sundial dated 1684. The archpriest's church of S. Eufemia was rebuilt in 1946, while the parish church of San Michele delle Badesse was consecrated in 1957. The church of San Nicolò in Favariego is one of the oldest religious buildings in the Camposampierese area. Visitors who value architecture and religious history during their stay will therefore find several distinct points of interest.
Venetian villas, palaces and museums
Villa Bressanin is a typical Venetian villa with a barchessa. Villa Querini, a palace, is also located in the immediate vicinity of Borgoricco-San Michele delle Badesse-Sant'Eufemia. In the surrounding area are Villa Farsetti, also a palace, as well as the Villa Breda Museum and Villa Contarini, a museum. These different types of buildings and museums offer another perspective on the region's architecture. When planning your accommodation, it may be useful to decide in advance whether you would prefer to focus on Roman history, religious buildings or Venetian-style estates.
Gardens, parks and a regional natural landmark
Other destinations in the vicinity of Borgoricco-San Michele delle Badesse-Sant'Eufemia include Area verde via Bellini, a garden; Giardino Cavalleggeri di Padova, also a garden; and Parco di Villa Soranzo Conestabile, a park. In the wider regional area is the Arco Vallaresso, a natural arch. The range of attractions therefore extends from landscaped outdoor spaces to a distinctive natural landmark. You can organize your days around cultural and architectural attractions or visits to gardens and parks.
