Conselve: Cathedral, Villas and the Fiera di Sant’Agostino

Conselve combines sacred architectural history, villas from several centuries and regional wine production. Historic buildings include the Duomo di San Lorenzo, the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista Decollato di Palù, as well as several villas and palazzi.

Cathedral and church in Conselve and Palù

The present-day Duomo di San Lorenzo is also known as the Duomo di Conselve and stands on the remains of an old parish church dating from around 900 AD. Its present form was created between 1720 and 1748. The cathedral was consecrated by Cardinal Carlo Rezzonico, who later became Pope Clement XIII. Inside is an altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence from the early 17th century. Following restoration, it was attributed to the school of Tintoretto.

The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista Decollato di Palù stands in Palù. It was built in 1574 at the instigation of Giovanni Lazara and extensively restored in 1647, 1733 and 1968. There is an accessible entrance on the ground floor.

Villas and palazzi from several centuries

Villa Conti-Schiesari was built by the noble Conti family in the first half of the 16th century at a site where the castle of Conselve from the 11th century probably stood. The villa was extended and altered in the 17th century. The institution housed in the villa was active from 1942 to 1970.

Palazzo Schiesari Bergonzini dates from the first half of the 17th century. Palazzo Ferrante Deganello was formerly known by the names Michiel, Suman, Moschini and Buniolo and was built by the Venetian noble Michiel family at the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. Its inner façade dates from the 16th century and opens onto a large garden.

Villa Zane Bellegno probably dates from the middle of the 16th century. It was built by the Zane family and passed to the Bellegno family in 1630. The present form of Villa Malipiero-Morosini-Cavalli-Cappello dates from the 18th century; today, the building is known as Villa Schiesari.

Villa Ca’ Sagredo was built from 1660 onward by Giovanni Sagredo. The building was initially designed as a hunting lodge and was later transformed by Piero Sagredo into a stately country residence.

Fiera di Sant’Agostino and regional wine production

The Fiera di Sant’Agostino reached its 447th edition in Conselve in 2026. At this edition, open workshops were offered at the Villaggio Fiera; there was also a food and drink stand run by the Pro Loco.

Conselve is part of the Bagnoli Friularo DOCG production area.
