Polverara between Cultural Heritage and the Bacchiglione Cycle Route

Polverara combines historic buildings with a cycle route along the Bacchiglione that runs through Polverara, as well as themes relating to regional farming and livestock keeping and everyday history. Those who want to discover not only Italy’s renowned art cities but also Polverara with its own history during their trip to Italy will find several different points of interest here: a museum recognized by the region, the Torre Colombara, churches, a historic villa, and the Gallina di Polverara.

Museum and Farming Culture at La Masseria

At La Masseria in Polverara, the Museo della Civiltà Contadina was recognized as a museum by the Veneto Region in 2018. La Masseria di Polverara’s Fattoria Didattica also includes phytoremediation ponds and enclosures for donkeys, sheep, rabbits, and pigs. There is also an aviary, a chicken coop, and a hatchery. The museum and the Fattoria Didattica are both located at La Masseria di Polverara.

The Torre Colombara on the Bacchiglione

A prominent historical landmark is the Torre Colombara. It is located on the left bank of the Bacchiglione at the southwestern edge of the municipality of Polverara and is the only surviving evidence of the former Monastero di Santa Maria della Riviera. The tower therefore represents both the historical depth of the town and its location on the river. Its spatial dimensions can be further understood from the building itself: the Torre Colombara is square, has a side length of 6 meters, three above-ground floors, and a maximum height of approximately 13 meters.

Villa, Garden Spaces, and Religious Buildings

In Isola dell’Abbà, the Villa Priuli Rezzonico was built in the 16th century and extensively altered in the second half of the 19th century. The estate includes several barchesse and covered ancillary buildings, as well as a garden. There is also a brolo enclosed by an elegant wall. Inside is an 18th-century Madonna and Child statue made of Istrian stone, known as the “Madonna del fiume.”

The Chiesa di San Leonardo in Isola dell’Abbà is dated to 1172. The present construction of the Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Fidenzio in Polverara, by contrast, dates from 1899. The church dated to 1172 therefore predates the present construction of San Fidenzio from 1899 by a considerable amount of time.

By Bicycle and Exploring Regional Specialties

Within Polverara, the Bacchiglione Cycle Route runs southward for approximately 4 km along Via Isola dell’Abbà; for day planning, this figure should be understood as a local section rather than the total length of the route.

Another specialty bears the name of the town itself. The Gallina di Polverara is kept for the production of eggs and meat and is known in the White and Glossy Black varieties.
